Operates traveling or stationary overhead crane (cab or ground controlled) to lift, move, and position loads such as machinery, equipment, products, and solid or bulk materials by performing the following duties.  The size of the project and organization of the work determining whether a worker spends all his time on one job or is transferred from task to task as the project progresses to completion.  Some workers habitually work in one branch of the industry, whereas others transferred from task to task as the project progresses to completion or according to the availability of work or on a seasonal basis. May be designated according to specific work performed.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.
  • Uses hoisting attachments such as hook, sling, electromagnet, or bucket as load requires.
  • Cleans and maintains crane and hoisting mechanism.
  • Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
  • Uses critical lift plan checklist and signs off on completion.



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • At least one year of experience operating a 65 ton or greater cherry picker is required.
  • Must have at least one year of experience rigging.
  • Must be dependable and willing to work with others.
  • Must make safety a number 1 priority.
  • NCCCO card mandatory, must be obtained from an accredited training association.
